Soloists for our 2023/24 season

Autumn Concert - Rosalie Curlett (Cello)
Rosalie began her studies at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, graduating with a first-class honours degree. After several years of freelancing, Rosalie moved to Belfast in February 2018 having been awarded a full-time position with the Ulster Orchestra.

Rosalie has performed regularly with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Manchester Camerata and the Halle Orchestra.  She has been awarded trials for No.3 Assistant Principal Cello and No.4 Cello with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, as well as being awarded trials for several positions within the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.  She has been fortunate enough to perform all over the world in countries such as Germany, Poland, Spain and China to name a few, and has recorded under Chandos and Deutsche Grammophon record labels.

Rosalie is a passionate teacher - she holds several teaching positions across Belfast.  She is a cello tutor for the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain and The Benedetti Foundation and a former string sectional coach at the prestigious Chetham's School of Music.  She now works closely with the education and outreach work of the Ulster Orchestra.

Rosalie plays on a Kai-Thomas Roth cello and would like to thank the Studio Symphony Orchestra for this opportunity to perform Saint-Saens' Cello Concerto No.1 - one of her favourite concertos.

Orchestral Masterpieces Concert - Greg Topping (Bassoon)

Gregory Topping is a bassoonist with the Ulster Orchestra since 2017.  In addition to his work in Belfast, Greg has also performed with The BBC Symphony Orchestra, The Hallé Orchestra and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Whilst at school Greg studied at the Junior Royal Academy of Music before he was awarded scholarships to study at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama as an undergraduate and The Royal College of Music for his postgraduate studies.  His teachers included Helen Story, Daniel Jemison, Graham Sheen, Andrea De Flammineis, Julie Price and Joost Bosdijk.

Greg, alongside his colleagues in the Ulster Orchestra and the EA Music Service, recently won the Classic FM Award for ‘Best Music Learning Initiative 2023’ for their work getting 35 schoolchildren around Belfast to learn the bassoon.

When he is not playing his bassoon, Greg enjoys days out in Belfast, a wee Guinness in Kelly’s Cellar and also engaging in his other passion, which is playing the drums, to the displeasure of his neighbours.
